Stop! Hammer Time!: Blacksmithing in 19th Century San Diego

Students will virtually visit Blackhawk Livery Stable in Old Town San Diego State Historic Park, where they will observe and interact with a working blacksmith as he or she forges a branding iron. They will even have a chance to design their own brand! Throughout this program, students will develop an understanding of the important role blacksmiths played in the economy of California’s early settlements. NOTE: This program is best suited to 3rd-6th graders.
