Asilomar State Beach

Explore the marine habitats of Monterey Bay

Dive into the diverse and wonderful marine habitats of Monterey Bay!

Located on the central coast of California, Monterey Bay has been called the "Serengeti of the Sea." It is one of the most biodiverse and productive areas on the planet. In addition to having incredible recreational opportunities, the bay serves as a sanctuary for marine life of all shapes and sizes.

Students will join California State Parks interpreter Isabella as they explore three important habitats in the bay: the open ocean, eelgrass beds, and the rocky reef.

Along the way, students will learn about a fish's lifecycle and how marine protected areas benefit marine habitats.
