In-Person Field Trip: Working Hands: The Labor of the California Dream
Explore the work and the workers that created the massive success of the California citrus industry! This interactive 1.5 mile hike explores California’s complicated relationship with immigration and agricultural labor. Includes a stop by the historic Western Engine, one of the only remaining engines used to pump millions of gallons of irrigation to the region’s citrus growers. Students will be able to identify the contributions of various immigrant labor populations to the California citrus industry, and understand the disparity of their experiences.
The maximum capacity for each field trip is 70 students. Modulation available for grades 3-12 and most support needs. If you have any immediate questions or concerns please get in touch with adam.broder@parks.ca.gov.
