All About Acorns: A California Staple

Join presenter Michael for an exploration into the Traditional Food staple of California Native Peoples, pre-contact. Here we will learn about the traditional ways of gathering and processing Acorn into a sustainable food source for 10’s of thousands of years. We will attempt to match the regional language of the school’s indigenous People’s in the presentation, pertaining to the word for acorn, acorn meal, and specific tools. As a Native cultural Person and practitioner Michael was taught by his elders how to prepare Acorn or “ooti” as a child and now pass on that lesson to 3 schools every Friday!
