Building the California Delta: A Story of Chinese Immigration and Agriculture

Join us as we explore the most complete example of a rural Chinese agricultural community in the United States! In this program, we will explore the Locke Boarding House Museum to discuss the history of California's Chinese immigrant community and the role they played in building the Sacramento-San Joaquin River Delta. Along the way, students will learn about the discrimination and exclusion faced by Chinese immigrants, the contributions made by Chinese immigrants to California's agriculture industry, and how they found security and community in the town of Locke.
