Geology of the South Yuba River
South Yuba River State Park is situated along its namesake South Yuba River, one of the numerous rivers that carve their way through the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Each of these rivers has unique geology that influences all aspects of life around the river.
Geology of the South Yuba River explores the relationship our river's geology has on the history and ecology that surround it. Students will learn about the geologic forces that shaped the South Yuba River Canyon, including plate tectonics, the rock cycle, and erosion. Students will also learn how the people, plants, and animals that call the river canyon home rely on its unique geology for survival. This program is suitable for grades 4-6.
