Explore Olompali State Historic Park!
Two guided field trip types are offered at Olompali State Historic Park, and each can be tailored to meet educational needs and student abilities.
Teachers who would like to schedule multiple classes in a single day should contact evan.weissman@parks.ca.gov.
K-5th Grade: “Acorns to Oaks, and the Lives in Between” State Park staff will lead students on an exploration of the grounds to learn about the natural and cultural history of the park. We’ll learn about the biodiversity of California’s grasslands, savannah, and oak woodlands, and how this web of life is bound together by everything from fungus to woodpeckers to the people who have lived here for untold millennia. Students will also learn about the various peoples who have lived at Olompali: from the Coast Miwok, through Spanish and Mexican control, and into the California era including an early Victorian garden and the Grateful Dead.
6-12th Grade: “Scientific Methods in the Field” A State Park naturalist will lead students though a community science project to gather data, and to learn how these data can form evidence for understanding biodiversity and changes which result from climate change or other causes. This trip can be customized to specific topics of study, and for either group or individual data entry depending on students’ use and access to technology platforms.
