Rooted in Survival: Unveiling the Resilient World of Coast Redwoods
Rooted in Survival is an exciting virtual field trip that brings the wonders of Jedediah Smith Redwoods State Park straight to your classroom or learning space! Designed for students in grades K–8, this live online science program explores the incredible adaptations that help coast redwood trees survive—like fire-resistant bark, fog-drinking leaves, and wide-spreading root systems. Through interactive lessons, educational videos, and a real-time connection with a California State Park Interpreter, students will experience the redwoods up close, no matter where they are. We bring the redwood forest to you—connecting learners to climate science, biodiversity, and the importance of protecting these ancient trees and their ecosystems.
Goals:
Understanding Adaptations: Students gain an appreciation for the intricate adaptations of coast redwoods and how these features help them survive and thrive.
Environmental Awareness: The program fosters a deeper connection to the natural world and encourages students to think critically about conservation and environmental stewardship.
Engaged Learning: Through interactive and multimedia content, students develop a love for science and an eagerness to explore the natural world.
Rooted in Survival is more than just an educational program; it’s an exploration of nature’s resilience and ingenuity. By studying coast redwoods, students not only learn about these iconic trees but also develop a broader understanding of the complexities of life on Earth and the importance of preserving our natural heritage.
