Rockin’ the Bay

Ever wondered what’s going on beneath your feet? Join California State Parks staff for a 45-minute virtual geology program exploring how the San Andreas Fault quite literally ‘rocks the bay’ at Tomales Bay State Park.

Explore the dynamic geological forces that have shaped Tomales Bay—from Earth’s layers and rock types to the tectonic plate movements and earthquakes that continue to transform the landscape.

Along the way, we’ll examine how this unique region formed over millions of years, and the impact of geological processes on the environment and the habitats within it.

This interactive program is designed for students in 4th–8th grade and touches on topics related to geology, earth science, environmental studies, and natural history.
