Gray Whale’s Great Migration

Dive into the gray whale’s great migration at Mendocino Headlands State Park! In this program we will learn how gray whales migrate thousands of miles from Alaska to Mexico every year, as well as how they eat, grow, and care for their young along the way. Then, we will come up with some ideas about how we can help whales as the climate changes, including a discussion about how marine protected areas can help! Weather permitting, we will take a look through the spotting scope and see if we can find any gray whales during the program. This program is designed for elementary school audiences, grades 3-5, and coincides with NGSS Standards 3-LS1-1, 3-LS4-4, 4-LS1-1, 5-PS3-1.
