Geology of the South Yuba River

Geology is the study of Earth’s materials and processes over time. Much of Earth’s geologic history is hidden underground, but the erosive power of the South Yuba River has exposed a wide variety of features for us to discover! Students will tour the canyon of the South Yuba River via the Buttermilk Bend Trail, studying the unique geologic features they encounter along the way. They will learn about the geology of the area and the role the South Yuba River plays in supporting the surrounding ecosystem.

This program is most suitable for grades 4-6.
