From Coal to Clay
Join us for a trip back in time to over 125 years ago to the first coal mines in California and the long-lost Brick Factory at Carnegie State Vehicular Recreation Area. In this program, we will learn about the daily life of coal miners and factory workers who lived and worked in company towns. We will travel into the past by looking at historical photographs and artifacts. We will discover how communities changed over time, the risks and rewards of starting new companies, the exclusion of Asian American labor, catastrophic disasters, and how these companies contributed to the development of early California's economic and industrial power. If you yearn for the mines, please join us! This program is for 3rd grade and above.
